TITLE: Senior Environmental and Permitting Engineer/Scientist – Mining and Minerals

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Regulatory Affairs

GENERAL PURPOSE:

This position supports the environmental permitting and regulatory process for new and existing mining and mineral processing projects. The position also provides general support for other regulatory functions commensurate with level of experience as determined by the Vice President Regulatory Affairs. This position is based out of the Company’s headquarters in Colorado, and is not a remote position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports the environmental permitting process for new and existing uranium mining projects (conventional, heap-leach, in-situ recovery), including projects located on federal lands (USBLM, USFS).
  • Supports the environmental permitting process for mineral processing projects (uranium, vanadium, rare earth elements) 
  • Supports and directs consultants and contractors in performing environmental baseline studies environmental assessments and preparing permitting documents.
  • Coordinates permitting activities with company personnel, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Prepares schedules and budget estimates for permitting projects; reviews and approves invoices from consultants, contractors and vendors.
  • Represents the company effectively in public meetings, presentations and external communications with regulatory agencies and the general public, as required.
  • Provides periodic briefings and updates to the Vice President Regulatory Affairs and other corporate management on the environmental permitting and regulatory status of various projects.
  • Supports project management activities and manages projects commensurate with level of experience as determined by the Vice President Regulatory Affairs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in environmental engineering or master’s degree in related discipline in the chemical, physical, biological or environmental sciences.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in environmental permitting for mining and mineral processing projects or similar facilities in the industrial/energy sectors.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Geologist (PG), or Project Management Professional (PMP) or ability to obtain and maintain certification.

KEY SKILLS:

  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills; ability to handle confidential matters with discretion; and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Works well under pressure; shows a high level of initiative; works with minimal supervision; uses sound judgment; strong organizational skills; stays current with regulations and public opinion concerning mining; and, knows how to gather necessary information, internally and externally.
  • Strong computer skills required including use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point), Adobe Acrobat, and database applications. AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS experience preferred.
  • Experience with NEPA, NHPA, CWA, CAA, RCRA and other federal and state environmental regulatory programs required.
  • Ability to perform as needed to meet permit, filing and regulatory deadlines.
